“Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility.” (Sigmund Freud)
How do you define responsibility?
I think we all agree on – RESPONSIBILITY- being the ability to be responsible.
BUT to what and to whom?
To be honest… to me it feels like we misunderstand the word completely.
When we think of being responsible we refer to something or someone on the Outside for whom or which we are responsible for .
Ultimately, however, I believe RESPONSIBILITY is rather the ability to be responsible to one#s SELF, to meet or respond to one’s personal needs. This means NOT relating to the Outside, but rather on the Inside.
The best teachers are babies.
Before they begin to explore the world around them, there is nothing more important and interesting than exploring themselves. They are always and constantly looking into and at their bodies and are fascinated by themselves. Bit by bit, they explore the smallest limb. Unconsciously so deeply responsible, they spend every minute to their needs. They are not at all worried or interested in whatever surrounds them.
Life is a mountain. Your goal is to find your path, not to reach the top. (Maxime Lagacé)
Longings & Desires
When exactly do we hand over this responsibility to the outside world?
It seems to me that as we get bigger and older, we increasingly lose and give up this kind of SELF-responsibility. Our senses, which at the beginning carried us inwards, now carry us further and further OUT !
They create at times almost unbearable longings and desires, demand us to compare ourselves with others, evaluate and judge and connect us with a reality that is not „real“ and certainly NOT what we are meant to be.
The result is an ever-widening gap between our true essence and an illusion called „life“. Divided between these two entities, we move and cling to space & time.
Entangled and manipulated by their own role model, each one of us creates their own life “Reality-Show” and identifies with it.
WHY?
Because everybody else does. After all, we want to belong and be someone or something. For some, this is their philosophy of LIFE
To be something or someone !
To be different is work, can be tough, can cause loneliness, a feeling of not being accepted lost !
The Outside World !

The more fascinated we become with the toys of this world, the more we forget that there’s another world to come.(Aiden Wilson Tozer)
Life between Heaven & Earth
The disadvantage is that the whole thing of “Being Someone or Something” is quite short-lived, not very eventful (even though it seems like it) and brings little or no growth with it. The thread of life is colored by the most diverse life situations. And in order to keep it colorful, constantly and always new life situations must be performed with a lot of effort in order to distract us from the true meaning of our existence.
When we are not supposed to interfere with the power of life.
WHO do we actually think we are, that we oppose these powers of Nature and constantly try to avoid them.
Between Heaven and Earth, we as HUMAN BEINGS are meant to move and follow in harmony with the forces of nature.
Instead again and again we take turnings over turnings because we think we know better and are surprised when our “plan” does not work out, unforeseen things happen and often only bring suffering and loss.
The ONE who sets out in search…
of his actual origin finds a path which is accompanied by feelings of fear and insecurity.
For too long one has relied on others that one hardly trusts oneself. The urge to join a group of like minded people that gives you security is great, but also deceptive. It brings us away from our true path once again in search of the beginning, of us, of FREEDOM (Kaivalya) and DETACHMENT (Vairagya).
Like the baby, at the beginning, we strive for unity instead of separation. To respond to our deepest needs and to free ourselves from any attachment to the Outside World.
We consciously observe and perceive the process of wholeness and separation. We surrender to the powers of nature and flow in the stream of unconditional trust. Our feet root us with the Earth and our upper body rises upwards towards HEAVEN. Nothing can separate us as we have never been separated!
